Bayern Munich seal Lucas Hernandez deal for €80 million
Bavarian giants Bayern Munich have smashed the German transfer record by signing Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for €80 (£68m) million. The 23 year old full-back was part of the French team that won the FIFA World Cup at Russia in 2018.
Lucas, who can play in both central defence and at left-back has signed a 5 year contract at Allianz Arena until 2024. After discovering that the left-back had been carrying a ligament damage in his right knee, the Bayern Munich chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm confirmed that he will be undergoing surgery today.
Even though the French full-back will be part of the Bayern squad only in the summer, he might have already played his last match for Atletico this season with the surgery taking place today.

FC Bayern Munich is one of the best clubs in Europe and the world. I’m proud to be able to fight for all possible titles with Bayern. I’d like to thank Atletico, the management, the coaches, my teammates and the fans for 12 wonderful years. Atletico will always remain a part of me. Now I’m looking forward to taking the next step with FC Bayern.”
