Brendan Rodgers won’t like Neil Lennon’s cheeky dig
Brendan Rodgers quit his job at Celtic to return to the Premier League. The new Leicester City boss lead Celtic to three Scottish League titles during his stint but his departure has stirred angry reactions from a section of the Celtic fans. The angry fans of the Scottish side put up the banner “Never a Celt. Always a fraud” in their game against Hearts suggesting the manager traded immortality for mediocrity.
Rodgers was quick to dismiss the angry reactions and hit back “Just what are you doing? I am one of you. Okay, I made a career decision. That doesn’t make me any less of a Celt”. However, the timing of Rodgers leaving Celtic has been questioned by critics. He was just 14 games away from completing the treble yet again. If he had moved in the summer, he wouldn’t have got such harsh criticism from the same fans who sang his name a few weeks back.
Now, Rodgers’ temporary replacement Neil Lennon was quick to take a dig at Brendan after his side’s 2-0 win over Hibernian in the Scottish Cup. Lennon said ” “I thought it was an outstanding performance from the team. We had total control, and I thought that was the best I’ve seen them play for a while”. However, it is also worth noting that Lennon had earlier appealed to the Celtic fans to stop being so harsh on the manager and remember the good times Brendan Rodgers brought to the club.
Scottish Premiership Leaders Celtic take on the second placed side Rangers next with the opportunity to extend their lead at the top to eleven points.
