Kompany bids farewell to Man City after 11 astonishing years to join Anderlecht
Vincent Kompany is arguably the greatest captain in the history of Manchester City and the club legend has confirmed on facebook that he will leave the club after Man City’s treble-winning campaign.
Along with Zabaleta, he is one of the players signed before Sheikh Mansour took over the club and has played a crucial part in the club’s transformation from a mid-table side in 2008/09 to one of the best sides the Premier League has ever seen.
Kompany has played 360 games for Man City, scored 20 goals, and helped the club win 12 trophies including 4 Premier League, 2 FA Cup, 4 League Cup and 2 Community Shield trophies with 11 of them as the club captain.
Vincent Kompany also disclosed his next destination to be his boyhood club R.S.C Anderlecht where he will serve as Player-Manager. He also went on to comment “This is not a good bye, but a see you later.”
Man City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised Vincent Kompany and claimed the club captain defines the essence of the club and would always be a part of the Man City family.
“There have been many important contributors to Manchester City’s renaissance, but arguably none are more important than Vincent Kompany.
He defines the essence of the club. For a decade he has been the lifeblood, the soul, and beating heart of a supremely talented squad.
“A booming voice in the dressing room yet a quiet and measured ambassador off it, Vincent can be as proud of himself as we are of him.
I am not sure he expected to lift the Premier League trophy on four occasions during his captaincy but he will be remembered and revered whenever this period of unprecedented City success is spoken about by future generations. His leadership, intelligence and determination have seen him adapt brilliantly to playing under four different managers and overcome some debilitating injuries. He is a special character who has answered every demand the club has made of him.
