Manchester City sign £650 million deal with PUMA
PUMA have reached a 10 year kit sponsorship agreement with Manchester City for £650 million, making it the biggest deal in the history of the club and the second highest in the Premier League. The deal commences in 2019, after Nike’s current deal with the Citizens expire.
Only Manchester United’s deal with Adidas which is the highest kit sponsorship deal in the Premier League sits above City’s PUMA deal. The agreement is a validation of City’s growing fan base not just in Europe but also in Asia-Pacific, Africa and North America.
The deal also includes sister clubs Melbourne City, New York City, Girona, Club Atletico Torque and Sichuan Jiuniu. Man City Chief Executive Ferran Soriano jubilantly stated: “It’s a historic day for us because what we are doing has not been done before, an unprecedented partnership covering five clubs over four continents.”
The CEO of PUMA – Bjorn Gulden in his interview with City’s website stated: “PUMA’s partnership with City Football Group is the largest deal that we have ever done – both in scope and ambition. We are very excited to partner with City Football Group, whose success, ambition and drive for innovation has seen them setting new standards, on and off the field. We look forward to building the most innovative partnership in football by redefining the sports partnership model both on and off the pitch. We want to maximize on-field performance as well as football culture, in areas such as music, gaming and fashion to connect and inspire the fanbase of each team.”
Notably, PUMA were already partnering with several City players including David Silva, Sergio Aguero and club captain Vincent Kompany.
