West Ham preparing bid for Olivier Giroud to replace Andy Carroll
Chelsea manager Sarri has used Olivier Giroud only in the Europa league recently. The Frenchman has expressed his frustration on being used as a second choice striker after the signing of Gonzalo Higuain.
The Frenchman prefers to stay at London and that was part of the reason why he moved from Arsenal to Chelsea. West Ham are ready to offer Giroud the perfect opportunity to stay in London and play regularly. Caroll has failed to impress the new Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Despite recalling Arnautovic to the squad, the Chilean manager is not impressed with the Austrian talisman’s attitude and is reportedly willing to offload the player in summer if the offers from China popup. If both Carroll and Arnautovic leave West Ham, it leaves Manuel Pellegrini with only one major striker in the form of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican scored a brace in the Hammers’ 4-3 win over Huddersfield but his performances so far at the London stadium has been inconsistent.
Manuel Pellegrini who has won the league with Man City in 2014 is building a squad at West Ham capable of competing with the big six. His former Man City recruit Samir Nasri showed what he can do after coming on as a second half substitute against Huddersfield but the midfielder’s season so far with the Hammers has been injury-hit. Nasri has 7 months to prove to his boss that he is worth keeping.
Possessing the rich talents of Declan Rice, Filipe Anderson, and Manuel Lanzini, West Ham could benefit from the signing of Olivier Giroud who thrives when he plays with top-quality midfielders. Giroud, at 32, is only a short-term solution for Manuel but he could still be effective next season as the man who could hold the ball in the opposition’s half.
Manuel Pellegrini might be facing the prospect of losing Pablo Zabaleta whose contract is expiring in the summer. The Argentine has been linked with a coaching job at his former club Manchester City. The summer transfer window could be the opportunity for the Hammers boss to reduce the average age of the squad and build the club for the future.
