Man City are through to the FA Cup final
Manchester City extended their winning run in all competitions to 14 as they beat Brighton Hove & Albion 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Brighton played brilliantly and gave the Citizens a very tough second half. Laporte played a brilliant pass out wide to Kevin De Bruyne who then picked Gabriel Jesus in the penalty box with a whipped cross. The Brazilian headed the ball into the back of the net to give City an early first-half lead.
Jahanbakhsh fouled retreating Walker in Manchester City’s box. Both players were involved in a face-off and Walker almost headbutted Jahanbakhsh. The referee showed both players a yellow for the incident. Walker was substituted by Pep Guardiola in the half-time break.
Brighton started the second half brightly and looked dangerous on set-pieces. A corner kick to the far post reached Duffy who powerfully headed the ball towards the lurking Murray but Laporte recovered and made a crucial clearance, which at one moment looked like a certain goal for Brighton. Laporte’s clearance proved to be match-winning at the end.
City created chances in the second half but Brighton comfortably denied the defending English champions another goal. Manchester City held on to the 1-0 lead until the final whistle and qualified for the FA Cup finals to be held in May. Wolves and Watford face each other on Sunday to decide who will join City in the final. Having already won the Carabao (EFL) cup, Man City have now moved one step closer to an unprecedented quadruple with this victory over Brighton at the Wembley.
