Why Arsenal should sign Adrien Rabiot
PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot is out of contract this summer and has been linked with many Premier League clubs but it is Arsenal who need him the most. The 23 year old has seen his game time get too limited after Tuchel took over the French giants.
Arsenal meanwhile have lost Aaron Ramsey who will be moving on the free to Juventus when his contract expires this summer. Despite injuries marring his time lately at the Emirates, Ramsey has scored 39 times and grabbed 46 assists for the North London side in the Premier League after moving from Cardiff in 2008. With an average of just over 50 passes per match, the 28 year old keeps the game ticking and is very disciplined. In fact, he has never received a red card in the league.
The Welsh man is a big game player and most recently, in the London derby, he scored against Tottenham Hotspur. Replacing Ramsey will not be easy for the Gunners who are reportedly not going to spend big this season. With Arsenal short of good talents in defense, it is possible that they don’t have the transfer budget to bring in a top quality midfielder who can replace Ramsey. That is where Rabiot fits the bill perfectly. Unai Emery can buy the French star for free from his former club PSG where he used Rabiot to great effect.
Despite just being 23, Rabiot has won 16 major trophies with PSG include a treble and 4 League1 titles. With his average passes per game in the Ligue1 being well over 70, he easily eclipses Ramsey’s passing ability and range. However, with the Premier League more competitive than Ligue1, it remains to be seen if the French star can replicate the same kind of passing in England.
Rabiot doesn’t score as much as Ramsey but makes up for it with his physicality and defensive prowess. Standing 6’2 tall, the midfielder will add more balance to the Arsenal midfield. He averages well over 2 tackles per game, which is higher than both Ramsey and Torreira. Unai Emery should prioritize the signing of Adrien Rabiot to replace Ramsey and compete with the Premier League elite next season.
