Chelsea join race for Philippe Coutinho
Barcelona midfielder Philippe Countinho’s exit rumour has caught the attention of numerous clubs and Manchester United were reportedly interested in the Brazilian. The Sport now reports that Chelsea have gone one step further and contacted Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian.
Barcelona paid Liverpool £142 million to bring Philippe Coutinho to Nou Camp but the Catalan club are growing tired of his inconsistency and would listen to offers around £110 million. Zidane’s appointment has increased the chances of Hazard moving to Real Madrid and Chelsea are on the hunt to find a replacement.
Coutinho spent 5 seasons in the Premier League at Liverpool and has already proved himself in England. The Brazilian is also a brilliant passer and an exceptional dribbler, which makes him an ideal candidate to be the main man in Sarri’s starting XI. The Sun reports that the 26 year old has already informed his friends and teammates that he is considering leaving the club and wants to be the central figure at his next club. That is some thing Chelsea can provide in the absence of Hazard.
Any move from Chelsea for Coutinho hinges on how their appeal on the transfer ban turns out. Chelsea have been banned from signing any new players for two transfer windows but FIFA will hear Chelsea’s appeal on April 11th after the club’s request to freeze the ban during the appeal process was rejected. If FIFA remain firm on their decision to not postpone the ban, Chelsea might be forced to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
