Jose Mourinho is announced as new Spurs manager
A day after Tottenham Hotspur fired Mauricio Pochettino, the North London club have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager on a contract that will run until the 2022-23 season.
Tottenham fired the manager who took them to the UEFA Champions League final last season. Spurs have endured a poor start to this season and sit 14th on the table with just 3 wins from 12 matches.
Jose Mourinho, who returns to management after he was sacked by Manchester United in 2018, expressed his excitement to return to football management.
I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
– Jose Mourinho on joining Tottenham Hotspur
Jose Mourinho has won three Premier League titles with Chelsea and enjoyed Champions League success with Porto and Inter Milan.
In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
