PSG boosted by De Gea turning down new contract offer from Man United
Manchester United goal-keeper David De Gea has reportedly turned down the club’s ‘final’ contract offer and wants to the club after the Red Devils failed to match his main demand of wage-parity with Alexis Sanchez.
As we reported earlier, both Paul Pogba and David De Gea demanded wage parity with Alexis Sanchez to stay at the club but Manchester United do not want to increase their wage bill while they are planning a summer overhaul. While Pogba’s relationship with the Utd fans seemingly at the lowest, De Gea still enjoys a good support from the Old Trafford faithful and the club were hopeful of agreeing a new deal with their shot-stopper.
The lack of Champions League football next season is significantly affecting Man Utd’s chances of landing top quality players in the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to convince the club’s big stars to stay but is seemingly unsuccessful in his efforts.
Incidentally, De Gea was on the verge of moving to Real Madrid a few seasons back but the move broke down when Manchester United sent the paper work a few seconds after the La Liga transfer window slammed shut. Now, Manchester United face the prospect of losing him for free next summer as potential suitors are refusing to match Man Utd’s valuation of £60 million for their number 1.
Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing De Gea but their valuation of the player whose contract expires next summer falls well short of Manchester United’s demand. However, the French Champions are willing to reward De Gea with a deal worth £350,000 a week and a huge signing on fee if he agrees a pre-contract with them in January.
Having already lost Ander Herrera for free, Manchester United could lose one of their star performers for free yet again next season if they don’t offload De Gea this summer. Ed Woodward has been widely criticized by many Manchester United fans for his transfer dealings but no transfer has hit them as hard as the Sanchez transfer.
By stealing the former Arsenal winger from the clutch of Man City by offering sky-high wages, the club have immersed themselves in a sea of trouble with their wage-structure broken by that specific deal. Also, it has supposedly upset United’s top stars who are threatening to leave the club if they aren’t rewarded with the same pay as United’s flop signing Alexis Sanchez. None of these issues were created by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but now, he is the man in the chair and it is his responsibility to sort the mess that Manchester United have not faced in almost the last three decades.
