The class act of Everton’s Seamus Coleman shows what Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson lacks
Seamus Coleman has donned the captain’s armband at Everton for most parts of the season in the absence of club captain Phil Jagielka. The 30 year old showed everyone why he is regarded as ‘captain-material’ by Marco Silva by being very honest and modest when questioned about Everton’s rivals in his recent interview with Sky Sports.
The Irish full-back admitted that he was impressed by Liverpool’s comeback against Barcelona and praised Everton’s derby rivals for their progress to the Champions League final.
“Every Everton fan, every Everton player is going to want their rivals not to win, but as players we respect what they’ve done as a team, no one can take that away from Liverpool.
Everton full-back Seamus Coleman told SkySports
What they did against Barcelona was incredible.
As Everton we’ve just got to worry about ourselves and make sure our seasons improve.
Let the best team win, if that’s Liverpool or Tottenham then so be it, it’s good for the Premier League.”
The Everton full-back who was signed for just £60,000 has put in some fantastic performances for the Toffees on the pitch but Everton fans will love him more for his modesty – a key attribute that is not easy to find in modern football today.
Unlike Seamus, Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson was quick to vent out his anger on Everton supporters when the Blues drew 0-0 against Liverpool at Goodison Park.
“They think they’ve stopped us winning the league today. Hopefully, we prove them wrong. Hopefully, our fans can rub it into them at the end of the season”
Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson said while appearing on Match of the Day
There are a lot of modern day football players who can look up to Seamus Coleman and learn from his behaviour off the pitch to serve as a good role-model. Every Evertonian will be proud of this Irish gem within their ranks.
