Chelsea confirm the signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig for €50m
Timo Werner has penned a deal to join Chelsea when the Bundesliga season is over. The RB Leipzig player has signed a five-year contract with the Blues worth £170,000 per week.
The 24 year was linked with Liverpool for close to a year but the Blues leapfrogged Liverpool in the race for one of Europe’s highly rated strikers. Werner has appeared 29 times for Germany so far and bagged 11 goals.
For RB Leipzig, the striker has scored 26 goals and bagged 8 assists this season in the Bundesliga from just 32 appearances. Chelsea triggered Werner’s €50 million release clause to finalize the deal.
“I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club. I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.
“I look forward to next season with my new teammates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”, said Werner.
